Web3 and Habits: How Blockchain Technology Can Help Build better habits.
Your growth and advancement in life is developed through your daily routines and behaviors. Those tiny repetitive tasks, efforts we put in everyday, pile up to become the success we celebrate at the end. Things like turning up at the gym daily or even checking in that course you had earlier registered for, gradually becomes a part of your sub consciousness that your body gets itchy if you don’t do them.
Habits are defined as routines that are practiced regularly. They can also be described as actions that arise from some kind of internal or external trigger.
(Robbins & Costa, 2017).
But some habits can be difficult to cultivate, especially when you are just starting out and if they are not intrinsically (personal satisfaction) triggered.
In a case like this, an external drive will need to be applied to pull one into achieving the desired goal with the use of incentives (motivation).
Now, how does Web 3 come to play in this?
Since the inception of the 3rd phase of the web (Web3), projects developed on its foundation have leveraged a “reward system”, through tokens or NFTs to their customer or users as reward for their loyalty, commitment and belief in the project’s course. This gives the users a tangible reason to stay with the project.
This loyalty reward system can also be used to build and improve certain human habits and behavioral patterns. There are used cases of this strategy, and users have confessed to seeing tremendous success and improvement to achieving goals and keeping to commitment.
The gamification of tasks with rewards as incentives have made many speak of how fun it is to earn at the same time being motivated to accomplish their goal.
Here’s are some habits Web3 technology can be used to improve:
1. Daily exercise and fitness habits: Web3-based applications reward users for physical activities, encouraging you to exercise and stay active regularly.
2. Commitment to learning: Educational leverage the use of cryptocurrencies to reward users for acquiring new skills and knowledge, motivating them to continue learning.
3. Completion of repetitive tasks: Gamifying boring tasks and providing rewards through Web3 technology, individuals are more likely to complete those repetitive tasks on time and with enthusiasm.
4. Goal achievement: Web3’s loyalty reward system can help individuals build and maintain commitment to achieving personal or professional goals.
5. Motivation to achieve specific objectives: Users of Web3 projects that offer rewards are more motivated to accomplish their objectives and maintain their commitment.
6. Behavioral patterns improvement: Web3 rewards can assist in improving various behavioral patterns, such as regular exercise, learning, and consistency in tasks.
7. Loyalty and commitment: The loyalty reward system in Web3 projects can promote loyalty and commitment to specific goals or projects, helping users stay engaged and focused.
Some examples of these used cases are:
Fitness:
STEPN and Aglet (both NFT rewards), Sweatcoin (token rewards) every step taken while walking, jogging, or running is counted and your burned calories are rewarded for, with NFTs which can be traded or native token (crypto) which can be sold for fiat.
Education:
LearnWeb3 (crypto), Learnoverse by BitDegree (crypto). Known as “Earn as you learn” is also not left out. Here, you are being rewarded for learning a skill.
NB:
Some of these rewards are earned from performing tasks after learning.
Though Web 3 technology is new, projects are being developed daily to solve and improve human lives and simplify our daily tasks.
Doing a repetitive task is boring, but with the angle of gamifying tasks with rewards systems, a lot of things are about to get done and completed on time.
